Overall Impressions of ITM platform
I have done quite a few reviews of project management software; ITM Platform is the best in terms of maturity of tools.
It supports both traditional and agile project planning. It also has a variety of professional project management features such as budgeting, risks, dashboards, and reporting. These features will be discussed later.
Logging in to the Homepage
Logging in will bring up the My Desktop tab. This tab shows you all of your daily activities, including your timesheets, tasks and projects.
ITM Platform software reviewThe second tab, not pictured, is ‘Management’. This gives you access the portfolio view of all projects and reports.
Your personal dashboard features a Kanban layout at its top that displays current tasks. Drag and drop is an option to manage your tasks. Although it’s not my preferred task list layout, it does the job and is easy to use.
Your homepage also features a message section. This allows you to share what’s happening in your projects. You can also filter messages by project. This is useful if you have set aside time for one thing.
Set up projects
Although it is easy to create a new project, it can be slow. You can either copy an existing project, create Kanban-managed projects or choose a Classic type of project. One with a Gantt diagram. Give your project a code, and a name. Next, add basic information such as start date, stage, type/category, and approval status. You can also add business objectives (you will need to add your own goals behind-the scenes – more about customisation later).
ITM Platform review Kanban exampleThere are many fields to complete. While you don’t need to use all of them, the quality of your dashboards or reports will depend on the data that you input. Therefore, it is in your best interest to ensure that projects are correctly set up.
Projects can be set up as ‘Classic’ (i.e. You can set up projects as ‘Classic’ (i.e., managed by a Gantt diagram) or ‘Kanban’ (i.e., flexible). After you select a project, you can see the project dashboard, messages, and the team board. If you’re migrating to another platform, you can also import from Microsoft Project Plans. It will import dependencies, percent complete, but not resource names. You can’t export it again.
After you save a task, the screen that appears is still the task page. There is a message at bottom indicating that the task has been saved. It would have been more convenient to default back to task list. I had to click to return to the tasklist and then ‘add new Task’ again. If you have many tasks to add, it’s not very intuitive.
The Gantt is flexible and does everything I need in MS Project, including indenting tasks, linking dependencies, creating a baseline, and changing the timeline. If you prefer, you can hide the Gantt or work directly from the columns. It is easy to add and remove columns by right clicking.
Unfortunately, the dates don’t display in UK format. However, I understand that this is on their To Do List for future developments.
Adding Resources
A grid is used to allocate resources to tasks. Although it doesn’t feel intuitive or familiar, it’s much easier than it appears!
You can also have resources that don’t have access, such as someone from the Press Office who won’t log in but you need to assign a task to. These people don’t need to be licensed, which is a good thing.
Resources don’t need to be people – you can make any type of resource that is useful if your equipment is needed to share or book out across projects.
Project Risk Management
ITM Platform allows you to manage your risks. Create a new risk from the Risks tab. Add all
